.) Star Trek: TNG : Call me a Trekkie or Trekker or whatever the hell they call themselves these days. (themselves= me) but I love this series. I loved it when I was growing up and I still re-watch this show pretty frequently. I feel like it is truly timeless TV. I remember my dad loved this show and would tape it every week w/ the same tape. (until it was sucked into a wormhole and then eaten by the Borg...that was weird) I also enjoyed the show, but I really started to appreciate it more when I was in high school. See, I used to work nights at Dairy Queen and I would get home pretty late. Anyway, I would come home fix myself some soup and crackers and watch TNG. It was quiet in the house and I was normally alone and they would show two eps in a row on fox. I remember I loved the show so much and still do. I felt like it was my show... it was one of the first shows I ever really loved and truly identified w/. (cause I am an Android) All the characters were so dedicated and committed to doing good throughout the galaxy! I just thought the idea was cool and they always solved some sort of mystery/problem or great moral questions were raised. The kids today love their CSI, which are great shows, but TNG solved mysteries of the universe and boldly went where no one had gone before. If you haven't ever watched this show or think its lame, I dare you to watch it and not be entertained. (I dared you so now you have to watch it)
.) Lost: Okay... I won't even go crazy about this show again! I talked about it awhile back so see my Lost blog if you are interested. BUT this show is hands down my favorite show of all time and I believe it's the greatest show ever made. PERIOD!
.) Battlestar Galactica (recent version) : I was a sick kid so when I was growing up and I watched a lot of re-runs. The Original Battlestar Galactica was on like everyday at noon or something, and it was rough. This was fairly early on in my love w/ Star Wars, and old Battlestar just felt like it was the the poorest mans version of Star Wars of TV. So when I heard about the new version I was pretty skeptical... so much so that I didn't even give it chance as it came out. I watched the whole series only a few years ago on Netflix, and I loved it! It's a simple premise. Their home gets destroyed by Cylons after 40 years of peace and they try to find a fabled planet called earth. The cast is great as a whole. There are moments that are pretty melodramatic, but the series beginning to end is must see TV. Watch it!
.) Sopranos: Seriously, this show is one of the best ever. It had it's issues mainly the ending, but overall it's a perfect show. The cast is one the best ever in any series... The show covers timely social issues, crime and family! It is at times disgusting to watch, but other times moving and funny! You love Tony Soprano and you hate him so much at the same time! He is one of the greatest characters in the history of film, TV or literature! I was in school while this show was coming out and I remember it was terrible waiting week to week for the next show... And everyone talked about it! That feeling of patience and waiting for good things to come is something that is becoming lost in out world in general! I love a good TV binge, but I have to say looking forward to a great show is a pretty cool feeling! Check it out!
.) Big Love: If you ever feel busy in your life or hate multitasking give Big Love a try! This show centers around a Mormon family that believes and honors the teaching of the Prophet Joseph Smith, who believed in polygamy! For those of you who aren't familiar w/ that term it means having more than one wife. There are many great things about this show, but what is really cool is that you learn about something that is largely seen as wrong to the average person. You start to relate the them so much and their love of family and community that you forget the family arrangement is largely unaccepted! (I remember when I tried polygamy for a few days... it was fun but I think I did it wrong... it didn't stick once all the girls knew what was going on... man did they yell and I was like come on babies... they left.) The sociological issues and moral question alone make this a show that everyone should watch! And you know what, Bill Paxton is excellent on that show! There I said it!
Check out next weeks blog for the other half of my list... Until then I want to hear some of your favorite shows of all time! You never know maybe some of them are on my list too? Then we can be TV Twins for life, which means I would have to move in w/ you and you'd have to take care of me so I could do art all day and write these Blogs and stuff. ( please let me have a TV Twin!)
